WITH THE POPULARITY AND EXPENSE OF CARS BUILT BY SINGER, EMORY, GUNTHER WERKS, AND THE LIST GETS LONGER BY THE DAY, THE “OUTLAW” IS HIGH FASHION. THIS EXAMPLE IS A MILD VERSION OF THE TREND. THE ATTENTION TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL IS WHAT MAKES THIS A NATIONAL CHAMPION. THIS IS AN INVESTMENT IN BLUE CHIP FUN!

The Name of our Porsche is “Lite N’ Sweet”.  This is because the Color, Sahara Beige, matches the color of the Coffee that one of the Guys at the restoration shop drank all day long.  It is our 1957 356A T1 Outlaw Coupe.  It was purchased in 1969 out of a back yard in Davenport, Iowa for what at that time was Junk yard price.  It had been sitting outside with no windshield since 1962.  That was when the owner (a Navy Petty Office) had come home to his mother’s house for extended leave from his nuclear sub.  His plan was to do an exterior repaint.  He got as far as stripping it down when JFK got into a little disagreement with the Russians about locating missiles in Cuba.  Navy was called back from leave, and never got back to Davenport to finish the job.  His mother finally told him to get it out of her back yard, and he told her to sell it.

With little time and financial resources while raising a young family, restoration was put on hold until the late 90s in New Jersey.  John Paterek came into the picture at that time, and he was the stimulus to get busy.  The engine was the first effort.  It was rebuilt and trimmed out with guidance of Harry Pellow and his book Secrets of the Inner Circle.  It was a stock 62 1600 Normal Engine Modified with an NPR 1720cc kit, Weber 40 IDF Carbs, and Super cam.

Next was the body sheet metal repair.  Pete Brittingham did the weld repair in his shop in East Cannan, CT.  It was now 2004 and time to get on with preparation for exterior color.  It was discovered that PPG had a formula for the original Sahara Beige.  Sahara Beige was 56 only color but is the original based on the Kardex and door jamb plate.  By 2009 the priming and sanding had been completed, and the car was ready to go to The Paterek Brothers shop for final paint, interior upholstery, and headliner.  The final detailed assembly was declared finished by March 31, 2011, in time to take Lite N’ Sweet to the 2011 Porsche Parade in Savannah, GA.   Lite N’ Sweet won first place in the Concours Full Performance Class.
